Ed Hales Park in downtown Redlands has a new art addition: the new Sister Cities Clock Tower.
The three clocks reflect the current times in Redlands’ three Sister Cities. Our city has Sister City connections in three different cities and countries: Hino in Japan, Linli in China and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Below the clocks in the center is a rolling ball feature.
If you haven’t heard of the concept of Sister Cities, here’s a bit about it: Sister Cities International was created by President Eisenhower in 1956 with the intention that it would create bonds between people from different cities around the world and be a hub of peace and prosperity (https://sistercities.org/). Redlands, Ca has participated in visitations and exchanges between our city and fellow Sister Cities — particularly in connection with Hino, Japan, our first Sister City as of 1963 — learn more here.
